Does the president recieve special protection?

Does the President recieve special protection. The fourteenth Amendment states that all U.S. citizens recieve the same protection. Does this include the president?. I know that the president pays taxes just like everyone else but does this also mean he gets the same protection?. Even after they leave office do they still reach the same protection?
