My son is mentally retarded and had delays we live in nystate can i be paid to care for him at home?

instead of putting him in a group home. he can have aides at home but why do we need an aide when we are capable here without someone invading our home and privacy. we know our son better than anyone, and i left my career to care for him, just think we should be paid now that he is an adult...any answers or advice
