I over wear my contacts frequently because they are over $500 a pair and have yet to have a problem with them. (Over 10 years of doing this) The biggest complication would be increased risk of infection. Keeping them clean should prevent this, but if you see any redness or irritation it would be time to just give up on wearing them longer.
